"Qatar: Sand, Sea & Sky"
Featuring Diana Untermeyer
Author, "Qatar: Sand, Sea & Sky," wife of U.S. Ambassador to Qatar
ABOUT DIANA UNTERMEYER
Mrs. Untermeyer lived in Doha, the bustling capital of Qatar, from 2004-2007 while her husband Chase served as U.S. ambassador. There she became well-known for her equestrian skills as a long-distance rider and for her volunteer activities on behalf of environmental preservation, sports and women's health. This brought her close to the Qatari people, giving her insight into the com-munity that is rare for an expatriate. Qatar: Sand, Sea, and Sky gives an overview of Qatar's rich culture and his-tory and documents its journey into modernity. Though small in size, Qatar's strategic location and natural gas wealth make it a rising economic and political power. The country's beauty is framed by the duality of being a desert on the sea. Breathtakingly illustrated by award-winning photographer Henry Dallal, Mrs. Untermeyer's personal narrative provides a unique perspective of this moderate Muslim country and the way it attempts to become modern and engaged with the world without losing its heritage.
